For Seniors

Taxpayer University for Seniors is a dedicated program for Wayne County homeowners 65 and older.

Protecting Your Home.

Preserving Your Independence.

Many seniors in Wayne County are living on fixed incomes in homes they have owned for decades, yet property tax bills do not adjust for age or income on their own. Without the right exemptions in place, a retired homeowner can face the same tax burden as someone still in the workforce, sometimes more than they can reasonably afford. The gap between what seniors owe and what they can pay is where foreclosure begins.

Wayne County has exemptions and relief programs specifically designed for older homeowners, but awareness is the barrier. Seniors who qualify for poverty exemptions, senior specific exemptions, and the Principal Residence Exemption often go years without applying because no one told them they were eligible. This program exists to close that gap.

At Taxpayer University, we recognize that protecting senior homeowners is both a community responsibility and an economic necessity.
